Father Brown was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. On June 29, 1963, after completing his seminary training at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest. He completed his seminary training with a Master’s Degree in Philosophy. From 1965 until 1969 he did graduate studies in Rome, Italy, earning his Ph.D. in Theology at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas in December of 1969. While in Rome, Father Brown worked at the Vatican during the Second Vatican Council. Returning to the states in 1970, he was assigned as Dean of Students at the Seminary of St. Pius X, a college-level seminary preparing men for the Roman Priesthood. The following year he was made Rector, President of the Seminary, and served in that capacity for 13 years. Following his term as Rector, Fr. Brown pursued graduate biblical studies at the Pontifical Institute of Biblical Studies in Jerusalem, Israel.

Returning again to the United States he was appointed pastor of Holy Family Parish in Ashland, Kentucky, where he served until 1986. From 1987 until 1996 he served on the Bishop’s staff as Vocation Director and Director of Lay, Diaconal and Priestly Formation for the newly erected Roman Catholic Diocese of Lexington. In 1996 Father Brown married his wife Linda and moved to Frankfort. In 1997 he became Dean for the School for Career Development at Midway College and has served in that capacity until the present. In 2004 he was promoted to the role of Vice President and Dean.  He was received as an Episcopal priest by the Rt. Rev. Stacy F. Sauls on December 8, 2003, and has served as assisting priest at the Church of the Ascension since that time.

The Reverend Rebecca Saager
Curate
My husband, Donald and I have lived outside of Stamping Ground, KY for 30 years on a small farm.  We have 2 sons and 2 granddaughters. I am in my 28th year as an 8th grade science teacher at Scott County Middle School. Being raised in upstate New York, yet spending my college years at Morehead State University in Eastern Kentucky has developed my unique outlook on life. After 4 years in training, I was ordained as a deacon in the Diocese of Lexington on June 6, 2011.  My personal ministry is helping people develop a more spiritual reverence for God’s creation and creatures.  Within our Episcopal diocese, I have a passion for Reading camp and St. Agnes house.  I am excited to be joining the folks at Ascension as we continue our walk together on the path of Life.

Administrative Assistant
A native of Powell County, Leigh has lived and worked in Franklin County for the past 21 years. Retired from state government since 2008, Leigh worked as a paralegal for the former Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Cabinet. She is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.

Program Director
Linda has worked in Christian Education and youth ministry for more than 20 years in the Roman Catholic and Episcopal Churches though she was raised in the Baptist Church. A walking repository of information about how and where to find help for those in need, Linda is a graduate of a four-year Ministry Formation Program in the Roman Diocese. She has worked in summer camps, with Scouts, on mission trips, taught Sunday School, and guided youth groups and ministries for children and adult. Linda attended Kentucky State University, Spaulding University, and “finally” graduated Summa Cum Laude from Midway College with a BS in Organizational Management. Linda is also a graduate, if you will, of Clown School in Louisville, and a former member of Clowns of America. She served as Diocesan Christian Education Director in 2000 and as Diocesan President of The Daughters of the King.

Linda has worked and worshiped at Ascension since 1996. “Ascension is a loving group of people, a true church where we laugh and cry together. Here, we see the future in children being baptized, in altar girls and boys processing in with the cross, and in the youth who want so desperately to grow up but still want us to hold onto them. We see our church in the faces of adults, young and old, nurturing one another, sharing faith and love.”

Linda enjoys writing and painting, especially in watercolor.  Married to Fr. William Brown since 1996, Linda asserts, “God has given me his best. I love being able to minister with my husband. He is the joy of my life.”
